Skeletons - A KS2 Dance Unit
This comprehensive KS2 dance scheme enables Year 3 pupils to explore movement through the engaging theme of skeletons and the human body. Over six flexible teaching phases, children develop performing, creating and appreciating skills whilst deepening their understanding of anatomy, joints and body awareness.
The unit uniquely combines physical education with science learning, using innovative chance choreography (dice-based) to create original dance sequences. Pupils learn a structured 'Skeleton Dance', develop their own chance dances, and explore paired work through the creative 'Positioning a Skeleton' task.
The scheme emphasises isolated movements, joint exploration, and body part identification whilst teaching five choreographic devices (unison, canon, action/reaction, repetition, retrograde). With numbered skeleton diagrams, direction charts, structured feedback tools, curated music playlists, and supporting videos, this resource provides everything needed to deliver high-quality, cross-curricular dance education.
Ideal for: Year 3 teachers, KS2 coordinators, PE specialists, dance teachers, science coordinators, trainee teachers, and educators delivering body/skeleton topics.
Special Features:
Innovative chance choreography using dice
Links to human biology and anatomy
Structured peer feedback system (-, =, + method)
Paired work developing cooperation and creativity
Focus on isolated movements and joint awareness
6 phases allow extended engagement with theme
Comedic action/reaction moments (Halloween skeleton scare)
Complete with numbered visual aids
